The results of our analyses do not provide clear evidence of increased risk of COVID-19 diagnosis, hospitalization, severity, or mortality due to asthma. Conclusions These findings could provide some reassurance to people with asthma regarding its potential to increase their risk of severe morbidity from COVID-19.Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a recently discovered noncoding RNA isoform capable of regulating neurological disease incidence. The present study was designed to characterize the circRNA expression profiles present in large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA)-type acute ischemic stroke patients and to detect biomarkers suitable for LAA-stroke detection. Using a RNA-seq-based approach, we characterized circRNA expression profiles in five LAA-stroke patients and four controls. We confirmed the differential expression of target circRNAs through quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and used Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyses to explore their functional roles. The diagnostic value of specific circRNAs was evaluated through a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. We identified 182 upregulated and 176 downregulated circRNAs in LAA-stroke patients and confirmed the differential expression of six circRNAs through qRT-PCR. These differentially expressed circRNAs are primarily associated with chromatin modification, autophagy, platelet activation, and neural precursor cell proliferation. The hsa_circRNA_0001599 expression levels were positively correlated with the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale scores and infarct volumes, with an ROC analysis of hsa_circRNA_0001599 in LAA-stroke, yielding an area under the curve of 0.805 (95% confidence interval 0.748-0.862; p  less then  0.001), consistent with sensitivity and specificity values of 64.41% and 89.93%, respectively, for the diagnosis of LAA-stroke. A transcriptome-wide survey of differential circRNA expression in LAA-stroke patients revealed hsa_circRNA_0001599 as a putative circRNA biomarker of LAA-stroke diagnosis.Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) as a rare and highly aggressive type of breast cancer displays phenotypic characteristics. To date, the IBC-associated molecular mechanisms are entirely unknown. In addition, there is an urgent need to identify the new biomarkers involved in the diagnosis and therapeutic purposes of IBC. MicroRNAs, a category of short noncoding RNAs, are capable of controlling the post-transcriptional expression of genes and thus can act as diagnostic predictive tools. In this review, we addressed the status of oncogenic and tumor suppressor miRNA-mediated IBC in current studies. check details Furthermore, based on their targets, their involvement in cancer progression, angiogenesis, metastasis, and apoptosis were determined.Consumption of raw food, especially smoked fish, meat, soft cheeses, and vegetables, contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, which can be invasive in pregnant women, elderly, and immunocompromised and diabetic patients. Through June to November of 2017, 11 patients developed invasive listeriosis in a small area of northern Italy. In the same period, 15 food samples (ready-to-eat seafood, raw vegetables, cheese samples, and salami) collected during the routine screening programs in the same area were found to be contaminated with L. monocytogenes. We characterized the isolates to determine the relatedness of L. monocytogenes strains isolated from patients and isolates from food samples and food-processing plants. Whole genome sequencing analysis showed that multiple L. monocytogenes strains were circulating in the area and no association was found between clinical and food isolates. Objective The aim of this ex vivo study was to assess the mean temperature change deep in tissue during diode laser (980 vs. 810 nm) irradiation using continuous and pulsed laser and initiated versus noninitiated tips. Background data Previous studies have determined thermal effects of diode lasers on tissue damage but have yet to compare the incision qualities of 980 versus 810 nm diode lasers. Further studies need to be done to determine the efficiency of diode lasers to create a safer protocol for clinicians. Methods Ninety-six incisions of 20 mm length were made in three bovine tongues using diode lasers (980 and 810 nm). Both continuous and pulsed modes were tested with initiated (using blue articulating paper) and noninitiated glass fibers (n = 12 per group). Thermocouples attached to LabChart® software were used to measure mean temperature changes. Mean, standard deviations, and p values were conducted for each group to test the statistical significance (p  less then  0.05). Results Quality of incisions were better using the initiated tips for both laser wavelengths. Pulsed mode with 810 nm diode laser produced the least mean temperature change in tissue. Overall, both pulsed and continuous mode showed similar thermal effects on tissue. Conclusions Within the limitations of this study, noninitiated tips are responsible for diffuse irradiation in tissue and are associated with tissue temperature increase during surgery. Low incision quality was observed using noninitiated tips. The temperature changes seem to be dependent on the laser wavelength and are higher for 980 nm compared with 810 nm pulsed diode laser. Objective To assess stability of laser periodontal therapy (LPT) results after orthodontic tooth movement. Background Periodontitis and malocclusion each exhibit high global prevalence. Thus, dentists inevitably face increasing demand for orthodontic treatment in patients with reduced periodontal support. Many of these patients benefit from orthodontic treatment, provided that periodontal inflammation is controlled. Materials and Methods We present a case demonstrating successful orthodontic treatment of periodontally compromised teeth after LPT. A patient with severe attachment and alveolar bone loss received orthodontic treatment 13 months after neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet LPT (1064 nm). We utilized three laser parameter sets for various purposes during the procedure-ablation of the periodontal pocket epithelium (2.8 W, 20 Hz, 100 μs), clot stabilization (2.8 W, 20 Hz, 550 μs), and photobiomodulation (2.8 W, 20 Hz, 100 μs, noncontact). Results Treatment resulted in improved radiographic bone levels, clinical parameters consistent with periodontal health, and favorable occlusal relationships.
