Untargeted metabolomic analysis revealed a significant effect of the carbon source on the exometabolome profile relative to IAA-related compounds and other plant bioactive signaling molecules. The IAA-enriched metabolites secreted in the culture medium by P. agglomerans C1 were used as plant biostimulants to run a series of trials at a large-scale nursery farm. Tests were carried out with in vitro and ex vitro systems following the regular protocols used for large-scale plant tree agamic propagation. Results obtained with 4,540 microcuttings of Prunus rootstock GF/677 and 1,080 plantlets of Corylus avellana L. showed that metabolites from strain C1 improved percentage of rooted-explant, number of adventitious root formation, plant survival, and quality of plant as vigor, with an increase in the leaf area between 17.5 and 42.7% compared to IBA-K (indole-3-butyric acid potassium salt)-treated plants.Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a seafoodborne pathogen that can cause severe gastroenteritis and septicemia diseases in humans and even death. The emergence of multidrug-resistant V. parahaemolyticus leads to difficulties and rising costs of medical treatment. The bacterium of environmental origins containing no major virulence genes (tdh and trh) has been reported to be associated with infectious diarrhea disease as well. Identification of risk factors in V. parahaemolyticus is imperative for assuming food safety. In this study, we obtained secretomic and proteomic profiles of V. parahaemolyticus isolated from 12 species of commonly consumed aquatic products and identified candidate protein spots by using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry techniques. A total of 11 common and 28 differential extracellular proteins were found from distinct secretomic profiles, including eight virulence-associated proteins outer membrane channel TolC, maltoporin, elongation factor Tu, enolase, transaldolase, flagellin C, polar flagellin B/D, and superoxide dismutase, as well as five antimicrobial and/or heavy metal resistance-associated ABC transporter proteins. Comparison of proteomic profiles derived from the 12 V. parahaemolyticus isolates also revealed five intracellular virulence-related proteins, including aldehyde-alcohol dehydrogenase, outer membrane protein A, alkyl hydroperoxide reductase C, phosphoenolpyruvate-protein phosphotransferase, and phosphoglycerate kinase. Additionally, our data indicated that aquatic product matrices significantly altered proteomic profiles of the V. parahaemolyticus isolates with a number of differentially expressed proteins identified. The results in this study meet the increasing need for novel diagnosis candidates of the leading seafoodborne pathogen worldwide.Maternal factors and exposure to pathogens have an impact on infant health. For instance, HIV exposed but uninfected infants have higher morbidity and mortality than HIV unexposed infants. Innate responses are the first line of defense and orchestrate the subsequent adaptive immune response and are especially relevant in newborns. To determine the association of maternal HIV infection with maternal and newborn innate immunity we analyzed the cytokine responses upon pattern recognition receptor (PRR) stimulations in the triad of maternal peripheral and placental blood as well as in cord blood in a cohort of mother-infant pairs from southern Mozambique. A total of 48 women (35 HIV-uninfected and 13 HIV-infected) were included. Women and infant innate responses positively correlated with each other. Age, gravidity and sex of the fetus had some associations with spontaneous production of cytokines in the maternal peripheral blood. HIV-infected women not receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) before pregnancy showed decreased IL-8 and IL-6 PRR responses in peripheral blood compared to those HIV-uninfected, and PRR hyporesponsiveness for IL-8 was also found in the corresponding infant's cord blood. HIV infection had a greater impact on placental blood responses, with significantly increased pro-inflammatory, T H 1 and T H 17 PRR responses in HIV-infected women not receiving ART before pregnancy compared to HIV-uninfected women. In conclusion, innate response of the mother and her newborn was altered by HIV infection in the women who did not receive ART before pregnancy. As these responses could be related to birth outcomes, targeted innate immune modulation could improve maternal and newborn health.Wheat may be infected by the aflatoxigenic mold Aspergillus flavus during pre- and post-harvest activities. Control strategies reported to manage aflatoxin contamination of wheat are expensive and require extensive testing to verify the absence of toxic secondary metabolites or newly formed compounds. The objective of this study was to develop an in vitro new control strategy based on assessing the influence of wheat husks on aflatoxin production by A. flavus in liquid culture. The results showed that aflatoxin production is significantly influenced by the existence of husks in the wheat forms used as carbon substrates according to the following order full wheat grains less then half-crushed wheat grains less then wheat flour 82% less then wheat flour 72%. By applying a fractional factorial design and a response surface methodology, maximum aflatoxin production (2.567 ng/mg) was predicted when wheat flour 72% (39 g/l) as a carbon source, yeast extract (5 g/l), and a 75-ml medium volume/250 ml flask were utilized. At this optimized condition, after addition of wheat husk extract, the growth and synthesis of aflatoxins of A. flavus were repressed by 74.85 and 98.72%, respectively. This finding paves the way to examine the antifungal potential of wheat husk constituents and to compare their efficacy with thyme, cinnamon, sweet basil, and coriander essential oils, which possess antimycotic activities. Accordingly, the wheat husk component SiO2 showed the highest growth inhibition (67.04%) and reduction of A. LC-2 molecular weight flavus aflatoxins (82.67%). These results are comparable to those obtained from various examined antimycotic essential oils.
