This study investigates the separate effect of sonication (US, carried out for 5 and 15 min) and thermal treatment (90 °C for 5 min) on nutritional and technological properties of tomato paste. US treatments did not affect the colour parameters and decreased the level of total acidity. Ascorbic acid content was slightly reduced after 5 min US but halved by pasteurization, while total carotenoids (TCC) and lycopene (LC) decreased in non-pasteurized samples after 15 min US. Neither the TCC nor the LC significantly changed in US-pasteurized samples if compared to controls. Microscopic analyses suggested a possible increased bioaccessibility of lycopene in US treated samples due to an enhancement of free lycopene clusters. Viscosity decreased as a consequence of thermal stress, although sonication contributed as well. The present findings suggest that 5 min sonication before pasteurization can enhance the nutritional characteristics of tomato paste, besides improving its texture.Banana chips are gaining popularity as a deep-fried product for its unique taste and flavour. This study is aimed to investigate the effect of hydrocolloids on oil absorption, physico-chemical and sensory properties of banana chips from two different varieties (var. Popoulu and var. Nendran), when fried at 180 °C for 3 min. The reduction in oil content was about 15%-35% and 19%-30% for hydrocolloid treated Popoulu and Nendran chips, respectively. The Free fatty acid content (FFA) of hydrocolloid treated banana chips was lower than that of untreated chips. The peroxide value (PV) values of all samples fell below 2 meq oxygen kg-1. CMC pre-treated banana chips were crispier than other formulations on both the varieties. Microscopic analysis showed the improved cellular integrity without large void spaces in hydrocolloid treated banana chips. PCA analyses elucidated that variables such as physical appearance, colour, crispiness, after taste, overall acceptability contributed positively, whereas hardness and sogginess contributed negatively to the correlation among the variables. From the chemical and sensory attributes, 0.5% CMC treated Popoulu chips and 1% CMC treated Nendran chips is recommended to produce chips with lower oil content.Rabbit meat consumption has increased worldwide due to its health benefits in humans but few studies addressed the stability of this food matrix. The effect of two types of packaging (vacuum, VP; and polystyrene tray overwrap with PVC/polyvinyl plastic film, PT) was evaluated on the microbial stability (psychrotrophic; PSY, lactic acid bacteria; LAB, initial coliforms counts) and physicochemical (pH, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), total volatile basic Nitrogen (TBV-N), color and drip loss) changes of ground rabbit meat during its storage at 4 ± 1 °C. VP packaging delayed PSY growth, lipid oxidation, protein degradation and undesirable color changes compared to PT samples. Shelf life of ground rabbit meat in vacuum condition could be around 10 days of storage, while PT samples presented a shorter shelf life of around 5 days. However, sensory studies must be performed in order to assure the exact shelf life of the final product. There is a lack of understanding from the literature surrounding what support parents require, and how they navigate this end of life experience. To explore bereaved parents' experience and needs for families when a parent is at end of life from cancer with dependent children. In-depth, semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with 21 bereaved mothers and fathers, identified from the general public, a family support service and hospice. In one world, 'living in the moment', cherishing the ordinariness of family life, remaining hopeful treatment will prolong life, whilst adapting as the illness unfolds. This has led to a plethora of attempts at accurate outcome prediction for acute ischemic stroke treatment, which have evolved in complexity over the years. In theory, physicians could eventually use such models to make a prediction about the treatment outcome for a given patient by plugging in a combination of demographic, clinical, laboratory, and imaging variables. In this article, we highlight the importance of considering the limits and nuances of outcome prediction models and their applicability in the clinical setting. From the clinical perspective of decision-making about acute treatment, we argue that it is important to consider 4 main questions about a given prediction model (1) what outcome is being predicted, (2) what patients contributed to the model, (3) what variables are in the model (considering their quantifiability, knowability at the time of decision-making, and modifiability), and (4) what is the intended purpose of the model? We discuss relevant aspects of these questions, accompanied by clinically relevant examples.
