Objective  To identify perioperative factors that may predict postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak and meningitis following expanded endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery (EETS). Study Design  This is a retrospective study. This study was set at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. A total of 78 patients who underwent EETS between January 2007 and November 2018 were participated. The main outcome measures were CSF leak and meningitis. Results  A total of 78 patients underwent a total of 100 EETS procedures; 17.9 and 10.3% of patients developed postoperative CSF leaks and meningitis, respectively. Out of eight, three patients with meningitis did not develop an observable CSF leak. The risk of developing meningitis in patients with a CSF leak was significantly higher than those without a leak, with an odds ratio (OR) of 11.48 (95% confidence interval, 2.33-56.47; p  = 0.004). Pituicytomas were significantly associated with meningitis compared with other pathologies. No other patient-specific factors were identified as risks for leak or meningitis, including method of skull base repair, sex, tumor volume, or body mass index, although there was a strong trend toward reduced CSF leak rates in patient with nasoseptal flaps used for skull base repair, compared with those without (9.5 vs. 25%). CSF protein was consistently elevated on the first CSF values obtained when meningitis was suspected. Conclusion  CSF leak and meningitis are common complications of expanded endonasal surgery No statistically significant risk factors for developing a postoperative leak other than the pathology of pituicytoma were identified, including method of skull base repair, although the use of a vascularized nasoseptal flap did trend toward a reduced CSF leak rate. However, none of the studies reported its role in protecting the watermelon genotypes from drought stress. In this study, we aimed to observe the effect of NO application on the physiological and biochemical responses of the two watermelon (Citrullus lanatus var. lanatus) genotypes grown under drought stress conditions by treating the plants with 15% polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG 6000) and 100 µM sodium nitroprusside (SNP), which is a NO donor in Hoagland solution. Among the two genotypes, one genotype, KAR 98 was drought tolerant; while another, KAR 147 was drought sensitive. Drought stress showed a decrease in the growth parameters of both the genotypes; however, as expected it was higher in the susceptible genotype, KAR 147. NO application could not prevent the reductions in the growth parameters; however, it reduced the increde information about the mechanisms that can be focused to improve drought stress tolerance of watermelon genotypes.Obesity is an alarming sign and considered as a threat word wide. The 50% hydro-ethanolic extract of Dalbergia latifolia bark (D. latifolia) (DLBE; %yield = 16.34) and methanolic extract (4.32%) of D. latifolia were made. The DLBE was used for the acute oral toxicity and anti-obesity activity in the rodent. However, methanolic extract was used for characterization by high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) method. During acute toxicity study, it was shown that certainly there was no mortality or morbidity observed up to the maximum dose of 2000 mg/kg after administration of DLBE. Thus we can conclude that the bark extract of D. latifolia can be used for the treatment of obesity and a novel approach for further investigations of its pathology.Paddy soils represent the largest anthropogenic wetlands on earth. Soil drying and rewetting that occurs annually inflict significant stress on soil microbial activities in paddy soils. An incubation experiment of 60 years of paddy soil was conducted to simulate the conditions of paddy fields (25 °C and 75% air humidity) during a 16-day incubation time. The effect of drying-rewetting [DRW, with 4 levels (1) constant soil moisture (CSM), (2) one-stage drought stress (DRW1), (3) two-stage drought stress (DRW2), and (4) three-stage drought stress (DRW3)] and how it evolves over 0, 4, 8. 12, and 16 days after incubation on the concentration of available phosphorus (AP), microbial biomass P (MBP) and microbial biomass C (MBC), and respiration rate (RES) was determined using repeated measures analysis (RMA). The results revealed that an increase in the number of drying-rewetting increases MBC and RES. Compared to CSM, frequent drying and rewetting caused an increase in RES, MBC and MBP by 88%, 38%, and 11%, respectively.
