Assessment of outcomes for cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS) surgeries has been difficult due to heterogeneity in outcome reporting. Our objective was to evaluate the outcomes for 2 cohorts treated surgically for isolated CuTS and for combined CuTS and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) using Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS). There were 29 patients in the isolated CuTS cohort and 30 patients in the combined CuTS and CTS cohort. PROMIS Physical Function (PF), Pain Interference (PI), Depression, and Upper Extremity (UE) were completed preoperatively and 1-week, 6-weeks, and 3-months postoperatively. Responsiveness was evaluated by standardized response means (SRM). Significant improvements from the 1-week to 6-week postoperative period are shown in the isolated CuTS cohort for PROMIS PF ( = .002), PI ( = .0002), and UE ( = .02), but scores plateau after 6-weeks postoperatively. A similar pattern for the same time points was seen for the combined CuTS and CTS group for PROMIS PF ( = .001), PI ( = .02), and UE ( = .04), with a plateau of scores beyond 6 weeks postoperatively. PROMIS UE was more responsive (SRM range 0.11-1.03) than the PF (SRM range 0.02-0.52) and PI (SRM range 0.11-0.40), which were both mildly responsive for both cohorts. PROMIS lacks the sensitivity to show improvement beyond 6-weeks postoperatively for both isolated CuTS and combined CuTS and CTS. The precise mechanism of 2-channel neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) treatment is unknown, and controversy remains over its efficacy. The sequential 4-channel NMES was newly developed based on normal contractile sequences of swallowing-related muscles. Objective. To assess the clinical efficacy of sequential 4-channel NMES during swallowing. Methods. In this prospective RCT, 52 inpatients with dysphagia (acute, subacute, and chronic state) after stroke, brain tumor, or encephalitis were enrolled. Participants who underwent a videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) and clinical evaluation were enrolled and were randomly assigned to the 4-channel NMES or sham group. The 4-channel NMES and sham groups swallowed thin and honey-like fluids under NMES (sequential stimulation on suprahyoid and infrahyoid) and sham stimulation, respectively. The procedures were evaluated with the VFSS. Pre- and post-treatment evaluations were performed with the videofluoroscopic dysphagia scale (VDS), penetration-aspiration scale (PAS), Likert scale, and kinematic analysis. Results. The 4-channel NMES group showed significantly greater improvements than the sham group with respect to oral VDS, pharyngeal VDS, total VDS, and PAS (P less then .05). Furthermore, the Likert scale for satisfaction, easiness, and discomfort for swallowing showed favorable results for the 4-channel NMES group (P less then .05). In the kinematic analysis, the peak speed point, distance, and velocity of hyoid movement were significantly greater in the 4-channel NMES group (P less then .05). Conclusions. Sequential 4-channel NMES activating the suprahyoid, thyrohyoid, and other infrahyoid muscles during swallowing showed significant clinical improvement with respect to VDS, PAS, and kinematic analysis. Polio Supplementary Immunization Activities (SIAs) were carried out in the State of Sabah in response to the Vaccine Derived Poliovirus outbreak declared in December 2019. Prior to this, Malaysia had been polio-free over the past 27 years. This paper reported on the successful implementation of SIAs in the district of Penampang, Sabah, adapting (vaccine administration) to the COVID-19 pandemic. A series of meticulous planning, healthcare staff training, advocacy, and community engagement activities were conducted by the Penampang District Health Office. Image-enhanced endoscopy is an easy-to-use modality with improved lesion detection. Linked color imaging (LCI) and blue laser/light imaging (BLI) are useful modalities for improving colonoscopy quality. Each mode has unique optical features; therefore, their intended use differs. LCI contributes to improved polyp detection due to its brightness and high color contrast between the lesion and normal mucosa, while BLI contributes to the characterization of detected polyps by evaluating the vessel and surface patterns of detected lesions. The proper use of these observation modes allows for more efficient endoscopic diagnosis. Moreover, recent developments in artificial intelligence will soon change the clinical practice of colonoscopy and this system will provide an efficient education modality for novice endoscopists.
