Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin disease, but its pathophysiology is still unclear. Several microorganisms, including Cutibacterium acnes, Demodex spp. and Staphylococcus epidermidis, have been suggested to play roles in its pathogenesis. However, it is suspected that the community of microorganisms in and on the skin, rather than a single species, plays a more causative role in the disease. Here, we explored the effect of substrate structure, including small and large-scale substrate roughness, substrate diameter, and substrate orientation (inclination), on adhesion and running speed of workers of one common, intermediately-sized, arboreal ant species. Normal (orthogonal) and shear (parallel) adhesive performance varied on sandpaper and natural leaf substrates, particularly at small size scales, but running speed on these substrates remained relatively constant. Running speed also varied minimally when running up and down inclined substrates, except when the substrate was positioned completely vertical. On vertical surfaces, ants ran significantly faster down than up. Ant running speed was slower on relatively narrow substrates. Infections that occur early after transplantation may impact short- and long-term outcomes in pediatric lung transplant recipients (LTRs). Methods We performed a retrospective review of pediatric LTRs at a large quaternary-care hospital from January 2009 to March 2016 to evaluate both epidemiologic features of infection in the first 30 days post-transplantation and mortality outcomes. The 30 days were divided into early (0-7 days) and late (8-30 days) periods. Results Among the 98 LTRs, there were 51 episodes of infections. Cystic fibrosis (CF) was associated with early bacterial infections (P = .004) while non-CF was associated with late viral (P = .02) infections. Infection after transplantation was associated with worse survival by Kaplan-Meier analysis (P value log rank test = .007). Viral infection in the late period was significantly associated with 3-year mortality after multivariable analysis (P = .02). Conclusions Infections in pediatric LTRs were frequent in the first 30 days after transplant, despite perioperative antimicrobial coverage. The association of 3-year mortality with late viral infections suggests a possible important role in post-transplant lung physiology and graft function. Understanding the epidemiology of early post-lung transplant infections can help guide post-operative management and interventions to reduce their incidence and the early- and long-term impact in this population.The national prevalence of employment changes after a cancer diagnosis has not been fully documented. Cancer survivors who worked for pay at or since diagnosis (n = 1,490) were identified from the 2011, 2016 and 2017 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey and Experiences with Cancer Supplements. Analyses characterized employment changes due to cancer and identified correlates of those employment changes. Employment changes were made by 41.3% (95% CI = 38.0% to 44.6%) of cancer survivors, representing over 3.5 million adults in the United States. Of these, 75.4% (95% CI = 71.3 to 79.2%) took extended paid time-off and 46.1% (95% CI = 41.6 to 50.7%) made other changes, including switching to part-time or to a less demanding job. Cancer survivors who were younger, female, non-white or multiple races/ethnicities, and less then 20 years since last cancer treatment were more likely to make employment changes. Findings highlight the need for patient-provider communication about the effects of cancer and its treatment on employment.The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-2019) that emerged in Wuhan, China, has rapidly spread to many countries across all six WHO regions. However, its pathobiology remains incompletely understood and many efforts are underway to study it worldwide. To clarify its pathogenesis to some extent, it will inevitably require lots of COVID-2019-associated pathological autopsies. Pathologists from all over the world have raised concerns with pathological autopsy relating to COVID-2019. The issue of whether a person died from COVID-2019 infection or not is always an ambiguous problem in some cases, and ongoing epidemiology from China may shed light on it. This review retrospectively summarizes the research status of pathological autopsy for COVID-2019 deaths in China, which will be important for the cause of death, prevention, control and clinical strategies of COVID-2019. Moreover, it points out several challenges at autopsy. We believe pathological studies from China enable to correlate clinical symptoms and pathological features of COVID-2019 for doctors and provide an insight into COVID-2019 disease.
