Notably, the proline accumulation in wild type increased at a slower rate than the quadruple mutant 7 d after drought stress. Besides, the quadruple mutant displayed significant oxidative damage, low tissue turgidity and higher membrane damage under terminal drought stress. find more Both terminal drought stress and long-term constant water stress revealed substantial differences in growth rate between wild type and quadruple mutant. The study provides evidence that ABFs are involved in drought stress response, such as proline biosynthesis in Arabidopsis. In this study we aim to assess the daily ingestion rates of synthetic particles by the fin whales (Balaenoptera physalus) that feed off the western coast of Iceland. To do so, we collected and analysed samples from the stomach content of 25 fin whales, consisting solely of northern krill (Meganyctiphanes norvegica). The particles found consisted of fibres and fragments, mainly blue, black and red, with an average size of 1.2 ± 1.3 mm. To confirm the synthetic nature of these particles, we used Micro-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and comparison with a polymer library. The mean concentration of synthetic particles in the krill samples found in the stomachs of whales was 0.057 particles per gram, a value much lower than that previously reported for particle uptake by krill. From this concentration in krill, we estimated that the daily intake of synthetic particles for the North Atlantic fin whale would be ranging from 38,646 ± 43,392 to 77,292 ± 86,784 particles per day. Although at this level it is not possible to assess the impact of synthetic particles and their associated chemicals on the North Atlantic fin whale population, concentrations of these contaminants are likely to increase in the future, potentially causing adverse effects on whales and other marine mammals.China produced and consumed a large amount of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). whose persistency and possible toxicity to organisms have raised public health concerns. Analyzing influent wastewater could help to assess the composition and mass load of PFASs discharged into a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) from its catchment. In this study, we analyzed 27 PFASs in wastewater samples collected from 42 WWTPs across China in 2014 and 2016. Results indicated that perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA), perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA), perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) were the most common PFASs in wastewater. Population normalized mass loads of PFOA and PFOS were higher in Eastern China than in the other three regions, possibly due to their higher usage. Although the concentrations of PFASs in Central and West areas were showed lower than in East area, Wuhan (in Central area) and Lanzhou (in West area) were hotspots of PFASs pollution because of their industry structure. Population density and per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) have positive correlations with the concentration of PFBA, PFOA, PFHxA, and ∑PFASs in wastewater. The estimated annual release of PFASs to WWTPs in our study is much lower than the total emission to the environment. Our results suggest that although there was some reduction in the production volume, certain legacy PFASs were still released into wastewater and their composition and concentration vary among WWTPs.Protecting the natural environment and ecological systems from the inorganic pollutants such as lead (Pb) has highlighted the urgent need to develop new and effective approaches for this substance's immobilization in soil. In this study, new, low-cost, and eco-friendly hydroxyapatite (HAp)-like compounds were prepared by reacting oyster shell (Oys) with diammonium phosphate ((NH4)2HPO4) (DAP) and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) at 25-28 °C (OyOHr) and 100 °C (OyOHh). Furthermore, OyOHr and OyOHh were assessed for their effectiveness to immobilize Pb in soil and suppress Pb uptake by Indian spinach (Basella Alba L.). Application of 0.5% OyOHr and OyOHh to soil (by weight) reduced Pb concentration in the shoots by 76.9-78.0% compared to control (CK), to a level that was slightly higher (by 15.5-21.5%) than the recommended food safety level (2 mg kg-1) suggested by WHO. The changes in Pb fractions revealed that the total contents of oxidizable and residual forms in OyOHr or OyOHh after harvest was >415.0 mg kg-1, which indicated that >92% of Pb when added to the soil, was immobilized and not able to be taken up by plants. The proposed Pb immobilization mechanism might be the dissolution of OyOHr or OyOHh followed by hydroxypyromorphite (Pb10(PO4)6(OH)2) (HP) formation. Due to their facile preparation and eco-friendly and excellent Pb immobilizing characteristics, OyOHr or OyOHh could be readily integrated into current farming systems to mitigate the risk of Pb transferring to plants. However, OyOHr seemed a better immobilizing agent correspond to OyOHh in terms of cost and efficiency. The co-existence of heavy metals in industrial effluents is a prevalent problem. Heavy metals are not biodegradable and can remain in the environment when left untreated. Therefore, metals must be removed from wastewater to protect people's health and the environment. Also, these pollutants usually have dissimilar compositions and properties. Generally, metal treatment is performed using traditional methods, but new processes have been developed due to the disadvantages of traditional methods. Especially in the last 20 years, studies on polymer inclusion membranes have been carried out and the transport performance of metal ions has been investigated. It is a more convenient process than both ion exchange and liquid-liquid extraction methods due to the potential and performance of polymer inclusion membranes. When the studies in the literature are examined, it is seen that the performance of polymer inclusion membranes is higher than expected and also when the production conditions are examined, polymer inclusion membrane is more advantageous than other processes. This review is a summary of the studies on the removal and transport of metal by using polymer inclusion membranes in the literature over the last 20 years.
