In a metaphor such as lawyers are sharks, the concept lawyers, which is the metaphor topic, and the concept sharks, which is the metaphor vehicle, interact to produce a figurative meaning such that lawyers are predatory. Some theorists argue that sensorimotor properties of the vehicle are the basis of metaphor comprehension. Accordingly, the metaphor lawyers are sharks is processed as a simulation in which bodily actions related to sharks are accessed (e.g., sharks chasing prey). In contrast, the long-standing assumption is that metaphors are processed as abstractions with no role played by sensorimotor properties. From this theoretical perspective, abstract characteristics of sharks (e.g., vicious, predatory) are argued to be the core properties involved in metaphor processing. Here, we juxtapose these two opposing views of metaphor processing using cross-modal lexical priming. We find evidence that low-familiar metaphors (e.g., highways are snakes) prime bodily-action associates (i.e., slither) but not abstraction associates (i.e., danger), and are hence processed via simulation, whereas high-familiar metaphors (e.g., lawyers are sharks) prime abstraction associates (i.e., killer) but not bodily-action associates (i.e., bite) and are therefore processed via abstraction. The results align with views of cognition and language that posit the presence of both embodied and abstract representations. The inclusion of transitional care professionals to improve the sectoral interface management is politically supported. The nine components of the transitional care model (TCM) originating from the USA, are used in arandomized controlled trial within the TIGER project, which is funded by the Federal Joint Committee of Germany. Geriatric patients are accompanied prior to discharge from hospital and up to 12months after discharge in the home environment. Within the framework of the TIGER project a nationwide survey was carried out on the use of the TCM components in the accompanied transition from hospital to home in the field of geriatrics. Adata collection was set up to establish contact with people from the immediate and care policy environment of geriatrics. In a2-stage process, the first question was whether ageriatric project was known that focuses on the transition from hospital to home in geriatric patients. After confirmation, aquestionnaire could be filled out online or by post. Atotal of 31 different projects out of 39 answered questionnaires were identified. Principally, all TCM components were used in the projects. The TCM component9 that describes the coordination of support and aids, was mentioned most often (n = 30). The TCM components6 (improvement in self-management) and8 (promoting continuity) were used in only 19projects. Management of the transsectoral transition is acurrent topic in the field of geriatrics in Germany. The TCM components that have proved to be important in reducing hospital readmission rates have predominantly been used in the projects.Management of the transsectoral transition is a current topic in the field of geriatrics in Germany. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ly2157299.html The TCM components that have proved to be important in reducing hospital readmission rates have predominantly been used in the projects. High dose brachytherapy using a nonsealed Re-resin (Rhenium-SCT®, Oncobeta® GmbH, Munich, Germany) is a treatment option for non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC). The aim of this prospective study was to assess the efficacy and the safety of a single application of Rhenium-SCT® in NMSC. Fifty consecutive patients (15F, 35M, range of age 56-97, mean 81) showing 60 histologically proven NMSCs were enrolled and treated with the Rhenium-SCT® between October 2017 and January 2020. Lesions were located on the face, ears, nose or scalp (n = 46), extremities (n = 9), and trunk (n = 5). Mean surface areas were 7.0cm (1-36cm ), mean thickness invasion was 1.1mm (0.2-2.5mm), and mean treatment time was 79min (21-85min). Superficial, mean, and target absorbed dose were 185Gy, 63Gy, and 31Gy respectively. Patients were followed-up at 14, 30, 60, 90, and 180days posttreatment, when dermoscopy and biopsy were performed. Mean follow-up was 20months (range 3-33months). Early skin toxicity was classified according to Commoto achieve complete response without significant side effects.Endodontic rotary files are cutting instruments used to perform root canal procedures within a tooth interior. Focusing on quantitative fractographic analysis increases necessary, clinical performance understanding of file separation failure. This research employed controlled, dynamic testing to failure of commercial rotary files, analyzing the fractographic, forensic characteristics in relation to Weibull reliability determination, considering (1) design analysis; (2) stress concentrations; (3) times to failure; (4) number of cycles to failure (NCF). Ex vivo testing included three file designs, each having constant tip size (0.035 mm), taper (0.06 mm/mm), and length (25 mm). Files were individually tested using an electric, torque-controlled handpiece, rotating within a standardized, simulated canal until fracture separation occurred. Fractographic analysis, including critical measurements, was conducted using the scanning electron microscope (SEM) (PhenomProX, PhenomWorld, NL). Weibull statistical analysis established reliability factors per design group. Fractographic analysis identified separation fractures, processing inclusions, flexural-fatigue striations, and stress concentrations at flute pitches. Calculated NCF median values (1277-EE; 899-VB; 713-PI) demonstrated significant statistical differences among groups (p  less then  0.001). Separated apical fragments yielded statistically significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) for varying file design groups. Weibull moduli among groups were statistically equivalent. Fractographic analysis exposed a presence of multiple failure factors in addition to defect distribution, governing cyclic fatigue failure originating at stress concentration points irrespective of file design. Fractographic analysis indicated that a change in file design, specifically at the working edges, in addition to improved surface finish, has the potential of reducing failures by lowering points of stress concentration and reducing fracture initiating surface cracks.
