Karger AG, Basel.INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE Even though the introduction of less cumbersome anticoagulant agents has improved, the rates ofoverall anticoagulant treatment in eligible patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) remain to be defined. We aimed to assess the rates of and determinants for the use of anticoagulation treatment before stroke in patients with known AF since the introduction of direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) in clinical practice. METHODS Consecutive patients admitted to an individual stroke unit, from September 2013 through July 2019, for acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) with known AF before the event were included in the study. Terephthalic nmr Logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent predictors of the use of anticoagulant treatment. RESULTS Overall, 155 patients with ischemic stroke/TIA and known AF were included in this study. Among 152 patients with a CHA2DS2-VASc score >1, 43 patients were not receiving any treatment, 47 patients were receiving antiplatelet agents, and the remaining 62 patients were on oral anticoagulants. Among 34 patients on DOAC, 13 were receiving a nonlabeled reduced dose and 18 out of 34 patients on vitamin K antagonists had an INR value less then 2 at the time of admission. Before stroke, only 34 out of 155 patients (21.9%) were adequately treated according to current guidelines. Previous stroke/TIA was the only independent predictor of the use of anticoagulant therapy. CONCLUSIONS Only 21.9% of the patients hospitalized for a stroke or TIA with known AF before the event were adequately treated according to recent treatment guidelines. It is important to improve medical information about the risk of AF and the efficacy of anticoagulants in stroke prevention. © 2020 The Author(s) Published by S. Karger AG, Basel.Conventional approaches for preparing yolk-shell nanostructures require complicated procedures such as multi-step coatings and template removal. Herein, we present a new and general strategy for making yolk-shell nanocomposites based on an oil-in-water emulsion system. As a demonstrating case, silicon nanoparticles were dispersed in an oil phase which was in an oil-in-water emulsion; then the oil/water interface was in-situ polymerized to form microcapsules. After carbonization, the shell of microcapsules was formed. The Li-ion battery anodes based on the microcapsules exhibit a good electrochemical performance including stable capacity and high rate-performance. The capacity remains 1100 mAh g-1 after 500 cycles at a current density of 1.9 A g-1, along with a Coulombic efficiency of ≈99.9%. In addition, the method presented here is general, which is applicable for the synthesis of many yolk shell-structured nanocomposites. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide (2D TMDs) alloys, consisting of three or more elements, offer a luxury verity of chemical and physical properties through elemental ratio alteration, thus may provide ideal candidate with tunable band gap for specific electrical applications. In this work, we demonstrate a high-quality layered MoSe2xTe2-2x (x=0~1) alloy synthesized via one-step chemical vapor transport method for high-performance electronic and optoelectronic transistors. Our characterizations reveal the obtained ternary alloy forming high-quality single crystal layers with 2H phase. Interestingly, the electronic transistors fabricated on MoSe2xTe2-2x thin layers (6~7 layers) display an anomalous transition from ambipolar to n-type in conductive characteristics with the increase of substitution x value. The subsequent photoelectrical measurements exhibit that high on-off ratio for every ratio (x = 0.18, 0.38, 0.67, 0.83) with optical band gap in the range of 1.6 eV nm and 1.1 eV (near infrared). The optimized MoSe0.37Te1.63-based transistor can achieve up to ~107 Ion/Ioff and 105 Iph/Idark ratio, 100 mA/W photo-responsivity and 2.38% external quantum efficiency with high photoresponsivity. Thus, such ternary MoSe2xTe2-2x alloys may pose a great potential for 2D-based electronic and photoelectronic applications. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.A passive brain-computer interface recognizes its operator's cognitive state without an explicitly performed control task. Fifteen healthy 22-28 years old participants took part in the experimentosed approach in this study is low-cost and user-friendly. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of intermetallic compounds of Tb3Co and Ho3Co is studied under high pressures up to ∼1 GPa using pressure dependent dc magnetisation and specific heat measurements at ambient conditions. The magnetic entropy change (-ΔSM) obtained from magnetisation data and adiabatic change in temperature (ΔTad) determined from zero-field specific heat and magnetisation data are found to be nearly identical within error limits with those deduced from purely field dependent specific heat experiments. With increasing hydrostatic pressure to ∼1 GPa, the -ΔSMand ΔTad, both show a significant enhancement of about 37% and 13% , respectively for 9 T field change in case of Tb3Co. On the other hand, Ho3Co exhibits a decrease of about 8% in both -ΔSMand ΔTadwith increasing pressure. The refrigerant capacity (RC) also increases from 650 J/kg to 847 J/kg in the case of Tb3Co and it goes down from 665 J/kg to 615 J/kg for Ho3Co for an increase of pressure to 1 GPa. With increasing pressure, the peak widths of both -ΔSMand ΔTadincrease in case of Tb3Co, although the increase is more in -ΔSM.
