Background Manual lymph drainage (MLD) is one of the common treatments for breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL). Although the primary goal of MLD is to drain the excessive fluid accumulated in the affected upper limb and trunk to an area of the body that drains usually, the use of MLD is decided based on swelling and subjective symptoms, without assessing whether there is fluid accumulated in the affected region. The purpose of this study was to examine truncal fluid distribution in a sample of BCRL patients and investigate any correlation between such fluid distribution and swelling or subjective symptoms. Methods and Results An observational study was conducted with 13 women who had unilateral, upper extremity BCRL. Fluid distribution was evaluated by using two magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences half-Fourier acquisition single-shot turbo spin echo and three-dimensional double-echo steady-state. The presence of swelling was determined by lymphedema therapists, and subjective symptoms were measured by using a visual analog scale. On MRI, no participants had any free water signals in the trunk. However, seven had swelling and all 13 had some kind of subjective symptoms on the affected side of their trunk. Conclusions These results suggest that swelling and subjective symptoms do not correlate with the presence of truncal fluid. For such cases, a different approach than MLD may be needed to address truncal swelling and related subjective symptoms. Checking for the presence of fluid in the truncal region may help MLD be used more appropriately.Aims Acinetobacter baumannii is notorious for acquiring antibiotic resistance and causing nosocomial infections worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and molecular characteristics of A. baumannii isolates obtained from inpatients and the intensive care unit (ICU) environment of a pediatric hospital in Shanghai, China. Methods Between July 2017 and January 2018, a total of 88 A. baumannii isolates, including three obtained from ICU environmental specimens, were characterized by antibiotic susceptibility, multilocus sequence typing, and resistance genes. Results Carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii (CRAB) isolates, which were resistant to all the antibiotics tested except colistin, accounted for 69.3% (61/88) of all isolates. Three sequence types (STs) were identified among the CRAB isolates, and the predominant clone was ST208 (93.4%, 57/61), which included three environmental isolates and 54 clinical isolates collected from ICU patients. Carbapenem-susceptible isolates, none of which was multidrug resistant (MDR), showed a more diverse genetic background with three known STs and 21 novel STs identified. Intrinsic blaOXA-51-like and blaAmpC were detected in all isolates, while blaOXA-23-like was only detected in all CRAB isolates. ISAba1-blaOXA-23-like, ISAba1-blaOXA-51-like, and ISAba1-blaAmpC were identified in 69.3% (all CRAB isolates), 0%, and 65.9% (58 CRAB isolates) of all isolates, respectively. Limited studies have been conducted to investigate the role of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in subchondral bone in ONFH. This study aimed to profile differential expression of circRNAs and messenger RNAs (mRNAs) in subchondral bone obtained from ONFH patients by next-generation sequencing, and explore the potential regulatory relationship of these molecules in ONFH by bioinformatics analysis. As a result, we detected 74 aberrantly expressed circRNAs and 121 differentially expressed mRNAs. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyses indicated several vital biological processes and signaling pathways, which are primarily related to osteogenic capacity influenced by osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Furthermore, attempting construction of protein-protein interaction network with 57 aberrant genes and competing endogenous RNA network with 3 selected circRNAs preliminarily revealed the regulatory roles and the relationships of these molecules in ONFH. In addition, the potential association of circRNAs in our networks with the molecular mechanism of ONFH was validated by real time-quantitative PCR. In conclusion, our findings may promote understanding the mechanism of ONFH, and offer a novel insight into early diagnosis and intervention of ONFH.
