People with diabetes mellitus and peripheral neuropathy (DMPN) often have balance and mobility deficits. Time-to-boundary (TTB) is a parameter of postural control that combines position and velocity center of pressure data. While not previously investigated, assessment of TTB may provide new insight regarding postural control in people with DMPN. Is TTB reduced and related to a measure of mobility in people with DMPN? Thirteen people with DMPN without fall history and 13 healthy matched controls participated in this case-control study. Participants stood in double-limb stance on a force plate. The anterior-posterior and medial-lateral center of pressure position and velocity relative to the boundaries of the base of support were used to calculate TTB (s). Lower values indicate less postural control. Time-to-failure during single-limb stance was a secondary measure of postural control. Time to complete the Timed Up and Go (TUG) was our measure of mobility. Longer TUG times correspond to decreased mobilitnce and function. Study findings may serve to further guide balance screening and rehabilitation efforts in people with DMPN.The incorporation of abiotic transition metal catalysis into the chemical biology space has significantly expanded the tool kit of bioorthogonal chemistries accessible for cell culture and in vivo applications. Current trends in the field are focusing on investigating new metals and sophisticated catalytic devices and toward more applied activities, such as the integration of subcellular, cell- and site-targeting capabilities or the exploration of novel biomedical applications. We present herein an overview of the latest advances in the field, highlighting the increasing role of transition metals for the controlled release of therapeutics.The metal-based drugs represented by cisplatin, carboplatin, and oxaliplatin, prevail in cancer treatment, whereas new therapeutics are extremely slow to step into the clinic. Poor pharmacokinetics, multidrug resistance, and severe side effects greatly limit the development of metal-based anticancer drugs. The robustness and modular composition of supramolecular coordination complexes allow for the incorporation of novel diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, showing promising potentials for precise cancer theranostics. In this mini review, we highlight the recent advances in the development of supramolecular coordination complexes as diagnostic and therapeutic agents. The key focuses of these reports lie in searching sophisticated coordination ligands and nanoformulations that can potentially solve the issues faced by current metal-based drugs including imaging, resistance, toxicity, and pharmacological deficiencies. To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of a silver nanoparticles/carboxymethyl-cellulose (AgNPs/CMC) composite on in vitro and dentine disc heterogeneous biofilms. AgNPs/CMC composite effect on normal human gingival fibroblast cells (HGF) viability was determined by the MTT reduction assay. In addition, we evaluated the antimicrobial effect of AgNPs/CMC composite on Candida albicans, Enterococcus faecalis, and Fusobacterium nucleatum growth in vitro and heterogeneous biofilms, as well as dentine disc biofilms. Quasi-spherical AgNPs/CMC composites, with a mean 22.3 nm particle-size were synthesized. They were not toxic to HGF cells at concentrations tested that were antimicrobial, however they caused significant cytotoxicity (89 %, p < 0.05) at concentrations > 15 μg/mL. In vitro, they inhibited up to 67 %, 66 %, and 96 % C. albicans, E. faecalis, and F. nucleatum growth at concentrations ranging from 1.2 μg/mL to 9.6 μg/mL, as compared with untreated control. We also demonstrated significant (p < 0.05) 58 % biofilm reduction by 4.8 μg/mL AgNPs/CMC composite on human dentine discs. AgNPs/CMC composite showed anti biofilm activity on monocultures, heterogenous cultures, and dentine discs, resulting a potentially effective alternative to prevent and eliminate infections after endodontic treatment.AgNPs/CMC composite showed anti biofilm activity on monocultures, heterogenous cultures, and dentine discs, resulting a potentially effective alternative to prevent and eliminate infections after endodontic treatment.This paper presents data about potency of herbal and resin cannabis products seized during 2010-2019 in north-east Italy. More than 12,000 cannabis samples were analyzed and concentrations of THC, CBD and CBN were collected. The results of our study provided clear evidence for an increase in the potency of cannabis products across the study period, which is consistent with other studies. Globally, the median THC concentrations increased from about 6%-11%, but differences were found between herbal and resin materials. THC potency in resin materials increased more consistently across the study period with a dramatic raise during 2018-2019, with median THC contents around 17%. CBD concentrations were found to decrease constantly over the study period, especially in herbal materials, which had a mean CBD concentration of 0.3%. In particular, about 75% of the analyzed herbal samples had a CBD concentration which was less than 3% of the corresponding THC concentration. In contrast, more than 50% of the analyzed resin materials had a CBD concentration which was about 30% of the corresponding THC concentration. This is consistent with the increase in prevalence of high-potency seedless female herbal products observed in the same period and indicates that herbal and resin materials were produced from different varieties of cannabis plants. However, resin materials derived from high THC/low CBD cannabis plants were recently found. Different routes (e.g. click here northern Europe) or different modalities of distribution were assumed for these products. CBN concentrations were also considered and found to be very low and consistent across the study period indicating reliability of THC values used in statistical analysis. In conclusion, this study provided an accurate picture of cannabis products seized over a decade over a definite geographical area which can be extremely helpful for comparative purposes and for national and international statistical analyses on cannabis products.
