Orthodontic and orthognathic management of cleft lip and/or palate (CLP) is a highly controversial subject. We present herein a retrospective study of 214 secondary cases followed over 22 years in order to assess the factors of successful management. The study focuses on the results of gingivoperiosteoplasty, and occlusal stability. Nine subgroups were identified, taking into account the age of the patients, the history of surgery on the alveolar region, and the presence or absence of skeletal discrepancy. Results clearly demonstrate a higher rate of poor outcomes and failures in the multioperated population. The success rate of the graft is 80.82% in the multioperated population versus 100% non-multioperated population. Periodontitis problem or orthodontic difficulties affect 19.17% of the patient in the multioperated groups versus 12% in the other groups. Relapse, particularly the transversal dimension, is also found mostly in the multi-operated population 17.8% versus 6% in the non-multioperated popu major palatal surgeries performed early, have adverse effects on maxillary growth. Many other factors play an important role in the stability of the success that are linked with orofacial functions. These data must be taken into account in the treatment of CLP patients. Use of patient specific Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) implants for the reconstruction of cranial defects has become a standard practice with excellent long-term results. However, for the reconstruction of midface and mandibular osseous defects other alloplastic materials are preferred but their use is limited due to high cost. This is a report of our experience with the use of low-cost patient specific PMMA implants fabricated using 3D printed moulds in the reconstruction of osseous defects involving different areas of the facial skeleton not limited to cranium. The 25 consecutive patients with craniofacial osseous defects who underwent reconstruction using customized PMMA implants were analyzed. All PMMA implants were fabricated intraoperatively with the use of 3D printed flexible moulds or templates. A total of 34 implants were used in 25 consecutive patients. Out of 34 implants 25 were used for midface and mandibular osseous defects. Most common etiology was post-traumatic deformity (n = 19) followed by tumor (n = 3), craniofacial anomalies (n = 2) and post-craniotomy (n = 1). One patient out of 25 (n = 1) had postoperative implant exposure. The follow-up was ranged from 3 to 19 months with an average of 12 months. The aesthetic outcome was found to be good to excellent with mean visual analogue score of 4.08. Polymethyl methacrylate implants fabricated intraoperatively using 3D printed moulds provide accurate and precise reconstruction at an exceptionally low cost. PMMA has an excellent moulding property with low infection rates. As shown in our study its application may be easily extended to all areas of the craniofacial skeleton.Polymethyl methacrylate implants fabricated intraoperatively using 3D printed moulds provide accurate and precise reconstruction at an exceptionally low cost. Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is an obsessive-compulsive related disorder characterized by an individual's preoccupation with the appearance of at least 1 perceived physical flaw. The bodily concerns held by individuals with BDD are largely unnoticeable, if at all, to other individuals. Those living with BDD are compelled to engage in repetitive behaviors or cognitive acts that interfere with daily function and activities. Despite the high prevalence of BDD in patients who seek cosmetic procedures (ie, as high as 1 in 5 such patients) and the availability of validated screening tools for this disorder, implementing a protocol of regularly screening for BDD is only rarely practiced by surgeons. Few studies have investigated its prevalence in the setting of elective dentoalveolar and orthognathic procedures. With the scope of practice of maxillofacial surgeons expanding in recent years to include facial cosmetic procedures, it is becoming increasingly important to screen for such disorders so that patients at way to screen for BDD in patients who are seeking orthognathic or facial cosmetic surgery. In our sample, patients presenting to maxillofacial surgeons for facial cosmetic surgery were found to score significantly higher on the BDDQ than those presenting for dentoalveolar surgery. In contrast to results of previous literature, patients seeking orthognathic surgery in our sample demonstrated no elevated risk for BDD, a finding which may be attributable to our small sample size. Ultimately, the data obtained from this study can aid surgeons in identifying patients with BDD in their own surgical practice, so that they may appropriately triage patients who may, or may not, benefit from surgical intervention. Paranasal sinus mucocele is a benign cystic lesion, lined with respiratory epithelium and filled with mucoid secretions, which is generally seen in the ethmoid or frontal sinuses. Inflammation, trauma, fibrosis, neoplasm, and previous surgery play a role in etiology. Treatment of this condition requires marsupialization and drainage. Endoscopic surgery is the gold standard procedure. A 2-year-old boy was referred to our clinic with a diagnosis of bilateral ethmoid mucocele causing proptosis in the right eye. General clinical examinations and routine blood analysis revealed normal health condition of the patient and comorbidities such as cystic fibrosis (CF) and/or ciliary dysfunction were excluded. The patient was operated with an endoscopic endonasal approach. As far as we know, our article reports the first case of bilateral ethmoidal sinus mucocele with no underlying comorbidity, such as cystic fibrosis or ciliary dyskinesia. Children are rarely affected by mucocele and if present at early age, there is usually an underlying cause. In pediatric patients with signs and symptoms suggestive of a mucocele, it is important to rule out other benign and malignant paranasal sinus pathologies.
