The data were partitioned into two groups 75% for training and 25% for validation. Meanwhile, the illegal dumping of solid waste has presented a significant issue. By using the method of systematic review, this study critically examined the literature related to illegal dumping that were published since 1990, and analyzed the current status and future trends of related research. Results show that the current studies on illegal dumping mainly focus on four perspectives environmental science and toxicology, economics, management, and the use of emerging technologies. This critical review revealed that although the issue of illegal dumping has been widely recognized in recent years, some questions remain unanswered. Therefore, a future research agenda is proposed. A potential drawback of insurance however, is that unless carefully designed it could dis-incentivise farmers to engage in wider farm adaptation measures or lead to more risk-taking behaviour. This paper analyses the attractiveness of publicly-backed climate risk insurance offerings to farmers and explores their preferences for elements of insurance schemes that do not negatively affect incentives for wider farm adaptation. Specifically, a discrete choice experiment is used to reveal Irish farmers' preferences for multi-annual insurance contracts and weather-indexed versus traditional indemnity insurance and cost. Results indicate that a majority of farmers are willing to buy publicly-backed insurance for protection from extreme weather events. Younger farmers, farmers who currently have farm insurance, farmers from certain geographical locations and farmers who have been previously affected by extreme weather events are more likely to buy insurance. With respect to the design of insurance schemes, farmers prefer multi-annual coverage versus annual renewal. They also prefer indexed-insurance and have a strong preference for cheaper coverage. New evidence on farmer preferences and intended behaviours is therefore critical to inform policy in this area.This work investigated the impact of the addition of different biochar types on mitigation of volatile fatty acid (VFA) accumulation, methane recovery and digestate quality in mesophilic food waste-sludge co-digestion. Four biochars derived from agricultural and sludge residues under different pyrolysis temperatures were compared. Specific biochar properties such as pH, surface area, chemical properties and presence of surface functional groups likely influenced biochar reactions during digestion, thereby resulting in a varying performance of different biochars. Miscanthus straw biochar addition led to the highest specific methane yield of 307 ± 0.3 mL CH4/g VSadded versus 241.87 ± 5.9 mL CH4/g VSadded from control with no biochar addition over 30 days of the co-digestion period. Biochar supplementation led to enhanced process stability which likely resulted from improved syntrophic VFA oxidation facilitated by specific biochar properties. Overall, a 21.4% increase in the overall methane production was obtained with biochar addition as compared to control. The resulting digestate quality was also investigated. Biochar-amended digester generated a digestate rich in macro- and micro-nutrients including K, Mg, Ca, Fe making biochar-amended digestate a potential replacement of agricultural lime fertilizer. This work demonstrated that the addition of specific biochars with desirable properties alleviated VFA accumulation and facilitated enhanced methane recovery, thereby providing a means to achieve process stability even under high organic loading conditions in co-digestions. Moreover, the availability of biochar-enriched digestate with superior characteristics than biochar-free digestate adds further merit to this process.Produced water is responsible for the largest contribution in terms of waste stream volume associated with the production of oil and gas. Characterization of produced water is very crucial for the determination of its main components and constituents for optimal selection of the treatment method. This review aims to review and critically discuss various treatment options that can be considered cost-efficient and environmentally friendly for the removal of different pollutants from produced water. Great efforts and progresses were made in various treatment options, including batch adsorption processes, membrane filtration, advanced oxidation, biological systems, adsorption, coagulation, and combined processes. Chemical precipitation, membrane filtration, and adsorption have high removal efficiencies that can reach more than 90% for different produced water components. The most effective method among these methods is adsorption using different adsorbents media. In this review, date-pits activated carbons, microemulsions-modified date pits, and cellulose nanocrystals as low-cost adsorbents were thoroughly reviewed and discussed.
