In the absence of water quality criteria (WQC) support for the current water quality standard (WQS), systematic WQC studies have been carried out in recent years in China. WQC for the protection of human health is established to reflect long-term consumption safety of aquatic products and water. Human health WQC for 15 toxic metals and metalloids based on exposure factors of the Chinese population and 40 field bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) were developed and analyzed in this study. Moreover, age-specific (age 2-5, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15-17, and adult) and region-specific (east, central and west China) WQC were analyzed to better understanding of the impact of specific parameter values on WQC. Human health WQC with consumption of fishes and water, consumption of fishes only, and consumption of water only were derived separately. WQC with consumption of water and organism for Hg, Cd, As, Sb, Se, Zn, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb, Mn, Sn, Ba, and Sr were 0.0264, 0.710, 0.827, 3.48, 22.1, 25.7, 32.2, 32.9, 35.5, 41.8, 72.1, 97.1, 206 and 2.20 × 103 μg/L, and were 13.3 and 6.67 × 103 μg/L for Cr(VI) and Cr(III) with consumption of water only. Comparison of age-specific and region-specific WQC showed that the protection for a specific population should be considered in the development of WQC and WQS, as well as cancer effect for carcinogenic metals. Health risk analysis showed that Cd, Cu, Zn, As, Hg and Mn average concentrations in 7, 5, 9, 22, 11 and 5 provinces exceeded the WQC values with consumption of water and aquatic product, showing potential long-term health risk (HQ ≥ 1) to the local population. Therefore, health risks posed by these metals from dietary intake related to surface water should be paying more attention. Melatonin has shown neuroprotective properties in pre-clinical studies of perinatal asphyxia through antioxidant, anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory actions. Studies have also demonstrated its safety and efficacy in neonatal encephalopathy (NE). However, its role in the current era of therapeutic hypothermia (HT) is unclear. read more The review aims to describe the currently available clinical evidence for Melatonin as a potential therapy for NE. Data Sources We searched Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, LILACS, and Cochrane central databases, published journals, and conference proceedings from inception to May 31, 2020. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of Melatonin for NE in term or late preterm infants reporting neurodevelopmental outcomes, death, or both. The evidence quality was evaluated using the GRADE system, while the recommendations were taken according to the quality. We included five RCTs involving 215 neonates. Long-term development outcome data is lacking in all except in one small study, reporting sit in NE (both alone and as an adjunct with therapeutic hypothermia), the clinical data supporting the neuroprotective effects in neonates is limited. Larger well designed, adequately powered multicentre clinical trials are urgently needed to define the neuroprotective role of Melatonin in optimizing outcomes of NE. People who are first-degree relatives of cancer patients are at an increased risk of developing cancer themselves. Despite this, relatives of cancer patients do not always make beneficial changes to their health behaviours. This study aimed to answer the following questions (1) do the health behaviours of people who are first-degree relatives of cancer survivors change following cancer diagnosis, and if so, how, and why, (2) what motivations/barriers exist for first-degree relatives when seeking to engage with health promoting behaviours, and (3) what do first-degree relatives believe healthcare organisations can do to improve uptake of healthy lifestyle changes. Nine biological first-degree relatives of cancer survivors living in Ireland (6 children, 2 siblings, 1 parent) participated in semi-structured interviews which were later thematically analysed. Findings revealed four superordinate themes Being Conscious/Aware, Limited Lifestyle Changes, Psychosocial Consequences of Experience, and Unmet Needs, with each of these themes having two to three subordinate themes. Patient and public involvement emphasised Unmet Needs, including needs for information and family support, as the theme that was most reflective of participants' lived experience. Results suggest that while family members tend not to change their lifestyle behaviours following cancer diagnosis, they do seem to make changes to their medical behaviours. Additionally, they can be negatively impacted by the experience in several other ways. Identifying means of support will allow relatives to cope better post diagnosis. Results suggest that while family members tend not to change their lifestyle behaviours following cancer diagnosis, they do seem to make changes to their medical behaviours. Health self-management helps improve health-related quality of life and life satisfaction, as well as cancer survival. The study aim was to explore the essence of the health self-management experiences and support needs of colorectal cancer patients after surgeries. The study was based on phenomenology research methodology. Purposive sampling was used to obtain a heterogeneous sample to provide rich information regarding the research questions. Participants were recruited from colorectal surgery outpatient clinics in a hospital in Taiwan. Data were collected by semi-structured in-depth interviews and analyzed by thematic content analysis. Strategies adapted from Lincoln and Guba were used to enhance the trustworthiness of the study. Ten participants, 5 males and 5 females, were interviewed. Their health self-management experience fell into 3 overarching themes and 9 related subthemes. Our results show that (1) seeking support when experiencing discomfort, (2) when life changes, re-adjust accordingly, any, and exhibit positive growth in life. Patients with colorectal cancer have to constantly adjust to the impacts of their diseases. The study results may provide as a reference for supporting postoperative adjustment and promoting health self-management among patients with colorectal cancer.
