Chlamydial trachomatis infection has been associated with adverse pregnancy and neonatal outcomes such as premature rupture of membranes, preterm birth, low birth weight, conjunctivitis, and pneumonia in infants. This review evaluates existing literature to determine potential benefits of antenatal screening and treatment of C. trachomatis in preventing adverse outcomes. A literature search revealed 1824 studies with 156 full-text articles reviewed. Fifteen studies were selected after fulfilling inclusion criteria. Eight studies focused on chlamydial screening and treatment to prevent adverse pregnancy outcomes such as premature rupture of membranes, preterm birth, low birth weight, growth restriction leading to small for gestational age infants, and neonatal death. Seven studies focused on the effects of chlamydial screening and treatment on adverse infant outcomes such as chlamydial infection including positive mucosal cultures, pneumonia, and conjunctivitis. Given the heterogeneity of those studies, this focused review was exclusively qualitative in nature. When viewed collectively, 13 of 15 studies provided some degree of support that antenatal chlamydial screening and treatment interventions may lead to decreased adverse pregnancy and infant outcomes. However, notable limitations of these individual studies also highlight the need for further, updated research in this area, particularly from low and middle-income settings.Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the main cause of morbidity and mortality in individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Adolescence appears to be a critical time for the development of early subclinical manifestations of CVD, with these changes likely driven by a deterioration in glycemic control during the progression through puberty, combined with the emergence of numerous other traditional cardiometabolic risk factors (e.g., hypertension, dyslipidemia, smoking, alcohol use, obesity, etc.) which emerge at this age. Although hemoglobin A1C has long been the primary focus of screening and treatment strategies, glycemic control remains poor in youth with T1D. Furthermore, screening for cardiovascular risk factors-which are often elevated in youth with T1D-is suboptimal, and use of pharmacological interventions for hypertension and dyslipidemia remains low. As such, there is a clear need not only for better screening strategies for CVD risk factors in youth, but also early interventions to reduce these, if future CVD events have to be prevented. Accumulating evidence has recently suggested that early increases in urinary albumin excretion, even within the normal range, may identify adolescents with T1D who are at an increased risk of complications, and results from pharmacological intervention with statins and ACE inhibitors in these individuals have been encouraging. Case Summary We present the first reported case of a 1-month-old male with a congenital nasopharyngeal GG, nasal congestion, and dyspnea; we include the operative video. Magnetic resonance imaging was used to explore whether the tumor communicated with the intracranial space. We used an endoscopic plasma technique to ensure complete tumor resection. This afforded a good visual field, endoscopic magnification, and good hemostasis. Bariatric surgery is used as an effective treatment for adolescents with obesity and provides physical and mental health benefits. Application of alternative, minimally invasive, safe, and reversible endoscopic procedures, such as the Duodenojejunal bypass liner (DJBL), has been recently suggested as an effective treatment for adolescents with obesity. Methods Nineteen adolescent with severe obesity undergoing DJBL procedure were psychologically assessed in an open-label, prospective clinical trial (NTC0218393), at the implantation of device and at the removal of device after 12 months. Methods This cross-sectional study investigated 63 children with biopsy-proven NAFLD who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), anthropometry, laboratory tests, and body composition analysis. Clinical and metabolic parameters, MRI-measured hepatic fat fraction (HFF) and pancreatic fat fraction (PFF), and histological findings were analyzed. Results In a total of 63 children (48 boys, median age 12.6 years, median body mass index z-score 2.54), HFF was associated with histological steatosis [10.4, 23.7, and 31.1% in each steatosis grade, P less then 0.001; Spearman's rho coefficient (rs) = 0.676; P less then 0.001] and NAFLD activity score (rs = 0.470, P less then 0.001), but not with lobular inflammation, hepatocyte ballooning, and hepatic fibrosis. PFF was not associated with any histological features of the liver.
