These results show that both markers are reliable for the detection of proliferating cells in birds, but the numbers obtained with BrdU and EdU should not be compared.Eating more quickly and consuming foods with a higher energy-intake-rate (EIR kcal/min) is associated with greater energy intake and adiposity. However, it remains unclear whether individuals who eat more quickly are more likely to consume foods with higher EIR. We investigated the overlap between self-reported eating rate (SRER) and the consumption of higher EIR foods, and their combined impact on daily energy intake and adiposity in a population-based Asian cohort (n = 7011; 21-75y). Food consumption was assessed using a validated Food Frequency Questionnaire. Moderated regression with simple slope analysis was conducted to evaluate whether SRER modified the association between dietary EIR and total dietary energy intakes. Faster eaters consumed a significantly higher proportion of energy from higher EIR foods among overweight individuals, but not among normal-weight individuals. Associations between dietary EIR and total energy intake were stronger among medium (β = 15.04, 95%CI 13.00-17.08) and fast (β = 15.69, 95%CI 12.61-18.78) eaters, compared with slower eaters (β = 9.89, 95%CI 5.11-14.67; p-interaction = 0.032). Higher dietary EIR also tended to be more strongly associated with BMI in fast eaters (β = 0.025, 95%CI 0.011-0.038) than in slow eaters (β = 0.017, 95%CI -0.007-0.040). These findings suggest that the combination of eating more quickly and selecting a greater proportion of energy from higher EIR foods (i.e., softly textured, energy dense), promoted higher dietary energy intakes and adiposity.Coxiella burnetii (Derrick) Philip, the causative agent of Q fever, is mainly transmitted by aerosols, but ticks can also be a source of infection. Transstadial and transovarial transmission of C. burnetii by Hyalomma lusitanicum (Koch) has been suggested. There is a close relationship between this tick species, wild animals and C. burnetii but the transmission in a natural environment has not been demonstrated. In this study, we collected 80 engorged nymphs of H. lusitanicum from red deer and wild rabbits. They moult to adults under laboratory conditions and we feed them artificially through silicone membranes after a preconditioning period. C. burnetii DNA was tested in ticks, blood and faeces samples using real-time PCR. The pathogen was found in 36.2% of fed adults, demonstrating that transstadial transmission from nymph to adult occurs in nature. The presence of DNA in the 60.0% of blood samples after artificial feeding confirms that adults transmit the bacteria during feeding. Further studies are needed about co-feeding and other possible transmission routes to define the role of this tick species in the cycle of C. burnetii.Indoor cooking is the main cause of particulate matter (PM) within residential houses along with smoking. Even with the range hood turned on, cooking-generated PM can spread quickly into the living room due to the heat generated by the cookstove. In order to improve the PM spread prevention performance of the range hood, a supply of make-up air is needed. Generally, make-up air is supplied through a linear diffuser between the kitchen and living room. In such cases, it is necessary to determine the appropriate location of the supply diffuser. This study evaluates the spread of PM according to different locations of the supply diffuser, which feeds in make-up air. For this purpose, indoor airflow and PM spread were analyzed through CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation analysis. By changing the location of the supply diffuser from the contaminant source, PM concentration was analyzed in the kitchen and living room of an apartment house in Korea. Based on the results, the optimal installation location was determined. In this study, 1.5 m from the source was the most effective location of make-up air supply to prevent the spread of cooking-generated particles.A combination of solid-state mechanochemical and green approaches for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is explored in this study. AZD5305 datasheet Thymus serpyllum L. (SER), Sambucus nigra L. (SAM) and Thymus vulgaris L. (TYM) plants were successfully applied to reduce AgNO3 to AgNPs, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis, with SER being the best reducing agent, and TYM being the worst. The experiments were performed via a one-step planetary milling process, where various AgNO3plant mass ratios (11, 110, 150 and 1100) were investigated. Atomic absorption spectrometry indicated that the stability of the mechanochemically produced AgNPs increased markedly when a sufficiently large quantity of the reducing plant was used. The antibacterial activity of the produced AgNPs was observed only for AgNO3plant ratio 11, with the AgNPs prepared using SER showing the greatest antibacterial properties.New ongoing rural construction has resulted in an extensive mixture of new settlements with old ones in the rural areas of China. Understanding the spatial characteristic of these rural settlements is of crucial importance as it provides essential information for land management and decision-making. Despite a great advance in High Spatial Resolution (HSR) satellite images and deep learning techniques, it remains a challenging task for mapping rural settlements accurately because of their irregular morphology and distribution pattern. In this study, we proposed a novel framework to map rural settlements by leveraging the merits of Gaofen-2 HSR images and representation learning of deep learning. We combined a dilated residual convolutional network (Dilated-ResNet) and a multi-scale context subnetwork into an end-to-end architecture in order to learn high resolution feature representations from HSR images and to aggregate and refine the multi-scale features extracted by the aforementioned network. Our experiment in Tongxiang city showed that the proposed framework effectively mapped and discriminated rural settlements with an overall accuracy of 98% and Kappa coefficient of 85%, achieving comparable and improved performance compared to other existing methods.
