The anuran larynx is an organ of great evolutionary interest because it impacts male reproductive success in courtships. However, little is known about the diversity of the larynx's anatomy, evolutionary history and systematics importance. Here, we describe and compare the anatomy of the larynx of 10 Physalaemus species of the P. cuvieri clade, focusing on the P. olfersii species group. We also reconstructed the ancestral states and tested the phylogenetic signal for the anatomical features. selleckchem In all the species, the larynx has a general globular shape with the arytenoid cartilages covering almost its entire dorsal surface, while the anterior process of the cricoid cartilages covers most of the ventral surface. The size of the secondary fibrous mass, the thickness of the vocal membrane, and the attachment position of the vocal membrane's free edge considerably differ among the species. Moreover, only four species of a single clade in the P. olfersii species group have the primary fibrous mass well-developed with a suspended region in the dorsolateral passage. We found a significant phylogenetic signal for all these characters. Ancestral reconstructions pointed to reduction tendencies in the thickness of the vocal membrane and the size of the secondary fibrous mass, and a shift of the ventral attachment of the vocal membrane, increasing the angle of its free edge along the phylogeny. This latter trait can diagnose the entire Physalaemus olfersii group, which has the ventral ends of the arytenoids positioned posteriorly, giving this group the steepest angles for the vocal membrane's free edge in relation to the frontal plane. Based on our results, the larynges can contribute to the Physalaemus olfersii species group's systematics and could be elucidative to understand the evolution of the genus. To assess the efficacy of a commercially available adjunctive phototherapy protocol ("Perio-1") in treatment of periodontitis. Hemolysis releases toxic cell-free hemoglobin (Hb), heme, and iron, which overwhelm their natural scavenging mechanisms during acute or chronic hemolytic conditions. This study describes a novel strategy to purify a protein cocktail containing a comprehensive set of scavenger proteins for potential treatment of hemolysis byproducts. Tangential flow filtration was used to purify a protein cocktail from Human Cohn Fraction IV (FIV). A series of in vitro assays were performed to characterize composition and biocompatibility. The in vivo potential for hemolysis byproduct mitigation was assessed in a hamster exchange transfusion model using mechanically hemolyzed blood plasma mixed with the protein cocktail or a control colloid (dextran 70 kDa). A basis of 500 g of FIV yielded 62 ± 9g of a protein mixture at 170 g/L, which bound to approximately 0.6 mM Hb, 1.2 mM heme, and 1.2 mM iron. This protein cocktail was shown to be biocompatible in vitro with red blood cells and platelets and exhibits nonlinear concentration dependence with respect to viscosity and colloidal osmotic pressure. In vivo assessment of the protein cocktail demonstrated higher iron transport to the liver and spleen and less to the kidney and heart with significantly reduced renal and cardiac inflammation markers and lower kidney and hepatic damage compared to a control colloid. The study is descriptive, cross-sectional, conducted from May-October 2020. A survey was developed to assess the EO, PE and JS. Participants were recruited by email. SPSS statistics 26 version was used to perform descriptive analysis. A total of 189 PHPs participated (65% response) with majority women (66%), the mean age was 36 years. Participants were employed (80%), in non-governmental organisations (20%), and academia (19%). Common employment positions were managerial (37%) and consultancy (18%). Majority of PHPs were exposed to PE (81%), the most frequent elements were 'temporary employment' (54%), and 'the lack of labour union' (53%). The JS of PHPs was 'satisfied'. A blend of scientific public health knowledge and interpersonal competencies, reforms in current employment conditions, development of professional entities to safeguard PHPs' rights, and continuous investment in public health is necessary for PHPs to strengthen COVID-19 pandemic preparedness. Furthermore, monitoring and evaluation of EO and JS are crucial to prepare PHPs according to the needs of the employment market and to be aware of PHPs' needs.
