02). The soft palate length showed a tendency towards an increase that did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.053). No other significant changes in the airway soft tissue measurements were observed. The proclination and protrusion of the upper and lower incisors were significantly decreased compared to pre-treatment measurements.Interpretation & conclusions.Orthodontic treatment involving the extraction of all four second premolars in females with bimaxillary protrusion increases the vertical airway length, which is the amount of distance between base of the tongue and posterior nasal spine. No other significant alterations in the upper airway measurements were observed. © 2019 King Saud University.Purpose To determine the effect of coffee on the stainability of CAD/CAM ceramics after different surface treatment protocols. Methods Ninety specimens (2 mm × 10 mm) of CAD/CAM ceramic materials (Vitablocs Mark II, VITA Enamic, and VITA Suprinity) were prepared. The specimens were subdivided (n = 10) into three groups G1 Glazed (control group), G2 Subjected to finishing and polishing, and G3 Re-glazed after finishing and polishing. The surface treatment was performed using a diamond polishing system for porcelain (Diapol) followed by applying a diamond polishing paste (Diapolisher). The specimens were immersed in distilled water for 24 h, and the baseline color measurement after finishing and polishing was recorded. Each group was then immersed in a staining solution (coffee) for one week, and the second color measurement was recorded. Results The color of the CAD/CAM ceramic materials in the finishing and polishing groups changed significantly after staining (P  0.05). Although the color change values of the three CAD/CAM materials increased, these changes were within the clinically acceptable value (ΔE  less then  3.3). Conclusion Staining of the tested CAD/CAM ceramic materials increased the color change values within the clinically acceptable range in all the groups, with the highest values found after finishing and polishing. Re-glazing is recommended after surface adjustment for all the tested materials to increase their resistance to staining. © 2019 The Authors.Context Dental caries is a major and chronic dental public health problem, which can usually be prevented by regular oral hygiene. The most common oral hygiene practice is brushing teeth with a dentifrice. Propolis has emerged as a promising anti-cariogenic agent, which is considered to be a good oral antiseptic for prevention of caries. Several studies have shown that the use of C has an influence in the growth of oral biofilms. There are several standard methods used to count bacterial colonies, such as crystal violet and CFU Count assays. OpenCFU method is a technique that can be used to calculate biofilm colonies more faster, precisely, and accurately. Aim To compare several methods for evaluating the number of biofilm colonies formed with exposure to a standard dentifrice and propolis. Methods and materials Biofilm assays were carried out on 96-well microplates. Reference strains of oral Streptococcus species (S. mutans ATCC 25175T and S. sanguinis ATCC 10566T) and yeast (Candida albicans ATCC 10231T) were inoculated into wells, and 200 µL of standard and propolis dentifrice solution were added to each well and incubated for 18 h at 37 °C. Bacteria and yeast were then sub-cultured on respective media and the colony-forming units (CFU) were counted manually. The other wells were stained by crystal violet and incubated for 15 min, followed by observation using an inverted microscope and evaluated using crystal violet analysis and the OpenCFU automated method. Results The numbers of CFUs determined for all strains were similar in the standard-dentifrice group and propolis-dentifrice group, and were similar among the three methods crystal violet staining, manual CFU count, and OpenCFU analysis. Conclusion OpenCFU analysis can be reliably used as a rapid and a more practical method to analyse the growth of oral microorganism biofilms. However, high digital image quality is required to provide an accurate analysis for colony counting. © 2019 The Authors. Objectives Long-term assessment of teeth, dental implants, and their corresponding structures is vital to obtain more data concerning the achievement or disappointment of different treatment modalities in clinical situations. Aim This report aimed to verify the usage of customized X-ray positioning stents suitable for long-term follow-up studies. Material and methods Two acrylic stents were compared. An X-ray positioning device was built by the incorporation of a bite piece within an acrylic hard nightguard stent and a conventional acrylic film holder were fabricated for 20 patients. Four radiographs were taken of each patient (two of each film holder) at the initial time and after 3 months. Specific linear measurements of the premolar diameter (CEJ width) and the height between the CEJ and the apex were made of all of the radiographs to determine the reproducibility and accuracy of the procedure. Results The customized X-ray positioning positing stent showed a slight increase in the mean difference of the measurements of the value of the real ratio, demonstrating that the measurements were precise and reliable images of the premolars. The acrylic film holder showed a significant difference in the measurements of the value of the real ratio, indicating unreliable images of the premolars. Conclusion The device provided reliable linear measurements and produced reproducible images suitable for studies depending on the follow-up analysis. © 2019 King Saud University. Objectives The purpose of the present study was to systematically review literature on the effectiveness of surgical regenerative treatment for peri-implantitis. Omipalisib research buy Methods Different databases were searched including the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, EMBASE and MEDLINE. Primary outcomes were changes in probing pocket depth (PPD), bleeding on probing (BOP), radiographic marginal bone level (RBL) and signs of infection. Secondary outcomes were facial marginal recession, aesthetic outcomes and cost of treatment. Only randomised controlled trials (RCTs) with a minimum of 12 months follow-up period after regenerative surgical treatment were selected according to PRISMA guidelines. Main results Five studies were selected. The highest mean reduction of PPD was 3.1 mm in a bovine-derived xenograft (BDX) group. The highest percentage reduction of BOP occurred in patients treated with implantoplasty and saline (a reduction of 85.2%). The highest mean defect fill of RBL was reported in the porous titanium granules group (3.
