The conventional "top-down", "bottom-up" and "combination" approaches of generating drug nanocrystals produce a "nanosuspension" (NS). It requires significant downstream processing for drying the liquid by suitable means followed by its granulation to develop an oral solid dosage form (OSD). In this paper, we used a novel, spray drying-based NanoCrySP technology for the generation of drug nanocrystals in the form of nanocrystalline solid dispersion (NCSD). We hypothesized that the NCSD would require minimal downstream processing since the nanocrystals are obtained in powder form during spray drying. We further compared downstream processing of NS and NCSD of diclofenac acid (DCF) prepared by wet media milling and NanoCrySP technology, respectively. The NS and NCSD were characterized for crystallinity, crystal size, assay and dissolution. The NCSD was physically mixed with 0.3% Aerosil® 200, 1.76% croscarmellose sodium (CCS) and 0.4% sodium stearyl fumarate (SSF) and filled into size 0 hard gelatin capsules. PubMed, Scopus and EMBASE were searched using the search strategy "Labor Stage, Second" AND (length OR duration OR prolonged OR abnormal OR excessive). Observational studies that examine the relationship between prolonged second stage of labor and neonatal outcomes were selected. Prolonged second stage of labor was defined as 4 h or more in nulliparous women and 3 h or more in multiparous women. The main neonatal outcomes were 5 min Apgar score less then 7, admission to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, neonatal sepsis and neonatal death. Data collection and quality assessment were carried out independently by the three reviewers. Twelve studies were selected including 266,479 women. In nulliparous women, a second stage duration greater than 4 h increased the risk of 5 min Apgar score less then 7, admission to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and neonatal sepsis and intubation. In multiparous women, a second stage of labor greater than 3 h was related to 5 min Apgar score less then 7, admission to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, meconium staining and composite neonatal morbidity. Prolonged second stage of labor increased the risk of 5 min Apgar score less then 7 and admission to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in nulliparous and multiparous women, without increasing the risk of neonatal death. This review demonstrates that prolonged second stage of labor increases the risk of neonatal complications in nulliparous and multiparous women.A pH colorimetric sensor array was prepared and characterized by combining tetrabromophenol blue (TBB) and bromothymol blue (BB) embedded in organically modified silicate (OrMoSil) spots polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-supported. The signal was based on the Hue profile (H). The individual calibrations of TBB and BB showed precisions with minimum values of 0.012 pH units at pH = 2.196 for TBB and 0.018 at pH = 6.692 for BB. The overall precision of 10 spots of the mixture TBB/BB increased in the pH range of 1.000-8.000 from a minimum value of pH precision of 0.009 at pH = 2.196 to 0.012 at pH = 6.692, with the worst value of 0.279 pH units at pH = 4.101. The possibility to produce an array with much more than 10 spots allows for improving precision. The H analytical performance was compared to those of other color spaces such as RGB, Lab, and XYZ. H was the best one, with prediction error in the range of 0.016 to 0.021 pH units, at least three times lower than the second-best (x coordinate), with 0.064 pH units. They are a good source of long chain-polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LC PUFA). Beyond a traditional food product, GSMs are also sold as mussel powders and oil extract formats in the nutraceutical markets. In this study, a four-sequence, single dose, randomized crossover human trial with eight evaluable healthy male participants was undertaken to determine the bioavailability of the n-3 LC PUFA in four different GSM formats (oil, powder, food ingredient and half-shell unprocessed whole mussel) by measuring area under the curve (AUC) and maximal concentration (CMax). Blood samples were collected at baseline and up to 48 h after initiation of product consumption in each administration period. There were minor differences between the bioavailability of FA (fatty acid) between the different GSM formats. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) peak concentrations and plasma exposures were significantly lower with GSM oil compared to GSM half-shell and GSM powder formats, which resulted in AUC0-48 for the intake of GSM half-shell mussel and GSM powder being significantly higher than that for GSM oil (p = 0.013, f= 4.84). This equated to a 20.6% and 24.3% increase in the amount of EPA present in the plasma after consumption of half-shell mussels and mussel powder respectively compared to GSM oil. GSM oil produced the shortest median time to maximal plasma n-3 LC PUFA concentration of all evaluated products demonstrated by a shorter maximum measured plasma concentration (TMax = 5 h).
