However, the O-surface structure recorded more excellent energy absorption and flexible behavior under compression. Additionally, the compression behavior of the O-surface structure was progressive from top to bottom. In contrast, the sea urchin structure was collapsed randomly due to originated cracks from unit cells' centers with local buckling effects. Moreover, the buckling direction of structures in long columns was also affected by keeping the relative density constant. Finally, based on specific strength, the O-surface structure exhibited 16-folds higher specific strength than the sea urchin structure.Osteosarcopenia, the coexistence of bone and muscle loss, is common in older adults, but its definition lacks international consensus. This cross-sectional study (n = 1199 post-menopausal women) aimed to determine the association between osteosarcopenia and fragility fractures and to investigate the impact of the definition of the "osteo" component. Bone mineral density and bone microarchitecture were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and the trabecular bone score (TBS), respectively. The "osteo" component of osteosarcopenia was classified as osteoporosis (T-score ≤ -2.5 SD), osteopenia/osteoporosis (T-score less then -1 SD), and high-fracture-risk osteopenia (-2.5 SD less then T-score less then -1 SD)/osteoporosis (T-score ≤ -2.5 SD). The Fracture Risk Assessment Tool was used to identify high-fracture-risk osteopenia. Altogether, 30.3%, 32.2%, 14.4%, and 23.1% of participants had osteosarcopenia, osteoporosis alone, sarcopenia alone, and neither condition, respectively. The odds ratios between osteosarcopenia and fragility fractures were 3.70 (95% CI 1.94-7.04) for osteosarcopenia, 2.48 (95% CI 1.30-4.71) for osteoporosis alone, and 1.87 (95% CI 0.84-4.14) for sarcopenia alone. Women with osteosarcopenia also had lower TBS, indicating worse bone microarchitecture. In conclusion, women with osteosarcopenia were more likely to have previously sustained a fracture compared to those without osteosarcopenia, with sarcopenia alone, and with osteoporosis alone. The relationship between osteosarcopenia and fracture risk may be best identified when considering high-fracture-risk osteopenia and osteoporosis. We proposed to perform a comparative analysis of growth factors, cytokines, and chemokine receptors on the salivary cells in the saliva obtained from trigeminal neuralgia (TN) and normal subjects. Saliva was collected from TN and healthy subjects. Salivary cells were isolated by centrifugation. The expression of the cell surface marker was analyzed by flow cytometry. A cytometric bead array was done to measure the levels of cytokines and growth factors on the flow cytometer. Saliva from TN subjects showed lower growth factor levels of Angiopoietin-2, bFGF, HGF, SCF, TGF-α, and VEGF and higher cytokine levels of IL-1β, TNF-α, CCL2, IL-17A, IL-6, and CXCL8, as well as higher expression levels of chemokine receptors CCR1 (CD191), CR3 (CD11b), CCR2 (CD192), CXCR5 (CD185), and CCR5 (CD196) in the cells from TN saliva. A certain set of cytokines and growth factors in the saliva, as well as chemokine receptors on salivary cells, could be a useful tool in the diagnostics and prognostics of trigeminal neuralgia. Trigeminal neuralgia is one of the significant pathological conditions in the class of chronic diseases around the world. Many targeted approaches are being tried by various research groups to utilize the information of the inflammatory microenvironment to resolve the pathology of chronic TN.Hypertension is one of the major risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD), and the coexistence of hypertension and CKD increases morbidity and mortality. Although many genetic factors have been identified separately for hypertension and kidney disease, studies specifically focused on hypertensive kidney disease (HKD) have been rare. Therefore, this study aimed to identify loci or genes associated with HKD. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted using two Korean cohorts, the Health Examinee (HEXA) and Korean Association REsource (KARE). Consequently, 19 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were found to be significantly associated with HKD in the discovery and replication phases (p less then 5 × 10-8, p less then 0.05, respectively). We further analyzed HKD-related traits such as the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) at the 14q21.2 locus, which showed a strong linkage disequilibrium (LD). Expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) analysis was also performed to determine whether HKD-related SNPs affect gene expression changes in glomerular and arterial tissues. The results suggested that the FANCM gene may affect the development of HKD through an integrated analysis of eQTL and GWAS and was the most significantly associated candidate gene. Taken together, this study indicated that the FANCM gene is involved in the pathogenesis of HKD. Additionally, our results will be useful in prioritizing other genes for further experiments.Bacterial pathogens as causative agents of infection constitute an alarming concern in the public health sector. In particular, bacteria with resistance to multiple antimicrobial agents can confound chemotherapeutic efficacy towards infectious diseases. Multidrug-resistant bacteria harbor various molecular and cellular mechanisms for antimicrobial resistance. These antimicrobial resistance mechanisms include active antimicrobial efflux, reduced drug entry into cells of pathogens, enzymatic metabolism of antimicrobial agents to inactive products, biofilm formation, altered drug targets, and protection of antimicrobial targets. These microbial systems represent suitable focuses for investigation to establish the means for their circumvention and to reestablish therapeutic effectiveness. This review briefly summarizes the various antimicrobial resistance mechanisms that are harbored within infectious bacteria.Osteoporosis is a major public health concern, especially in women. This study aims to identify early biomarkers from biochemical measurements of serum and urine for recognizing the development of osteoporosis and osteopenia in premenopausal and postmenopausal women. this website From the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES) cohort, longitudinal study participants with normal bone density were enrolled and assessed for the association of baseline clinical and biochemical factors with osteoporosis development over 4 years. In addition, a cross-sectional study between normal bone density and osteopenia/osteoporosis was conducted to validate the risk factors found in the longitudinal cohort. Of the 5272 female participants in the KoGES cohort, 813 women (501 premenopausal and 312 menopausal) who had normal bone density at baseline were included in the longitudinal study. During the 4 years of follow-up, 64 patients developed osteoporosis and 354 developed osteopenia. In a multivariate logistic regression analysis, serum calcium and urine uric acid levels were significantly associated with elevated osteoporosis risk in premenopausal and postmenopausal women, respectively (risk of osteoporosis by serum calcium levels in premenopausal women 4.
