To give an overview of the role of social media (SoMe) in cardio-oncology during the COVID-19 pandemic. SoMe has been critical in fostering education, outreach, awareness, collaboration, dissemination of information, and advocacy in cardio-oncology. This has become increasingly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which SoMe has helped share best practices, community, and research focused on the impact of COVID-19 in cardiology and hematology/oncology, with cardio-oncology at the interface of these two subspecialty fields. A strength of SoMe is the ability to amplify a message in real-time, globally, with minimal investment of resources. This has been particularly beneficial for the emerging field of cardio-hematology/cardio-oncology, a field focused on the interplay of cancer and cardiovascular disease. This longitudinal study aimed to disentangle the impact of chemotherapy on fatigue and hypothetically associated functional brain network alterations. In total, 34 breast cancer patients treated with chemotherapy (BCC +), 32 patients not treated with chemotherapy (BCC -), and 35 non-cancer controls (NC) were included. Fatigue was assessed using the EORTC QLQ-C30 fatigue subscale at two time points baseline (T1) and six months after completion of chemotherapy or matched intervals (T2). Participants also underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI). An atlas spanning 90 cortical and subcortical brain regions was used to extract time series, after which Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to construct a brain network per participant per timepoint. Network measures of local segregation and global integration were compared between groups and timepoints and correlated with fatigue. As expected, fatigue increased over time in the BCC + group (p = 0.025) leading to higher fatigue compared to NC at T2 (p = 0.023). Meanwhile, fatigue decreased from T1 to T2 in the BCC - group (p = 0.013). The BCC + group had significantly lower local efficiency than NC at T2 (p = 0.033), while a negative correlation was seen between fatigue and local efficiency across timepoints and all participants (T1 rho = - 0.274, p = 0.006; T2 rho = - 0.207, p = 0.039). Here, we have fabricated a highly specific capacitive nano-sensor for non-enzymatic glucose detection. Capacitance measurements were carried out on polyvinyl alcohol capped copper oxide (PVA-CuO) thin films on indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass using ARDUINO UNO. The capacitance study shows a decrease in capacitance with an increase in glucose concentrations. The applicability in real samples was performed by studying the glucose in the presence of fetal bovine serum. Dual energy computed tomography (DECT) scan has emerged as a useful diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of gout over recent years. Here, we review the role of DECT in the context of typical and atypical gout, including its role in identifying extra-articular monosodium urate (MSU) deposition. DECT has been found to be more accurate than ultrasound in detecting extra-articular MSU deposition in soft tissue. It has the ability to identify axial MSU deposition in gout patients with non-specific back pain. For individuals with no other clear etiology, this potentially implicates MSU as the cause of the pain. DECT also has the ability to detect vascular MSU deposition. This correlates with high coronary calcium scores and elevated Framingham cardiovascular risk. DECT continues to aid our understanding of articular and extra-articular MSU deposition, including the role of vascular MSU deposition on cardiovascular health. Not only does it allow quantification of urate burden but it can also potentially avoid invasive diagnostic procedures.
